Megabytes is a largely instrumental and guitar-centric album, consisting of angular melodies and rhythms, sound collage, and field recordings. There is more of an emphasis on composition and the overall "shape" of each individual song than there is on the album being a unit of pieces working together toward a specific concept. The songs are, for the most part, unrelated and independent from each other. For many of these songs, I wanted to demonstrate a juxtaposition of purely digital and synthetic sound against the organic and unpredictable nature of live recordings, improvised guitar and keyboards, and found objects used as instruments. A good portion of these songs were started months and even years before they were finished, with bits and pieces sitting on my hard drive and sampler during that time, hence the title. Megabytes, if nothing else, should serve as a reminder to constantly express yourself and create something new with whatever is around you at any given moment.
